There are a great many urgent issues which need to be addressed and we at PowerToThePeople believe a large, active, informed and united in cause, justice movement, using a diversity of tactics can really hold 'em to account!! & there's no better time than now!

NGO CAMPAIGNS:

Friends of the Earth - Sign up to FoE's 'Campaign Express' and campaign on issues such as climate change, real food, waste and transport amongst others. Support 'the Big Ask', e-mail your MP to support a strong Climate Change Bill. e-mail Joan Rudock, the minister responsible for waste, to support Europen waste targets int the review of the EU Waste Framework Directive.

Stop Climate Chaos- Sign up to 'I-Count' and campaign to stop climate chaos. e-mail Hilary Benn, the Minister for the Environment, and ask him to support strong action at the Bali UN climate change talks. e-mail your MP and Gordon Brown for a strong Climate Change Bill.

Campaign Against Climate Change - Join a local group and campaign for your local council to adopt annual emission reduction targets. Lobby your MP for a strong Climate Change Bill.

Trade Justice Movement - Take action for Trade Justice. Find out which MPs voted for it. Is your MP there? If not use our ‘How to hold your MP to account' section to find their record on the issue and their contact details. Lobby Douglas Alexander, the Secretary of State for International Development, to take steps to stop the EU pushing unfair trade rules on developing countries.

World Development Movement - Campaigns on climate change, water and trade; e-mail Gordon Brown to take urgent action to make Europe’s trade deals with poor countries fair. e-mail the EU Development Commissioner to stop water privatisation in developing countries as a condition for aid.

War on Want - Campaigns to fight the root causes of global poverty. Campaigns include corporate power and international taxation. Tax is key for fighting poverty, e-mail Gordon Brown to take action to stop corporate tax dodging. e-mail David Milliband to abandon the promotion of voluntary corporate social responsibility initiatives and to support binding corporate regulation instead.

Christian Aid - Lobby the Foreign Secretary, David Milliband, to act now on the Gaza situation and the Secretary of State for International Development, Douglas Alexander, to withhold the UK's World Bank contribution until it stops attaching harmful economic conditions to loans to developing countries.

ActionAid - Campaigns on international social justice and poverty. e-mail Douglas Alexander, to withhold the UK's World Bank contribution until it reforms its harmful and undemocratoic policies. Write to the Competition Commission to help end poverty and exploitation of supply chain workers by supermarkets.

Oxfam - Campaign to Make Trade Fair, e-mail the EU President to stop Europe's unfair trade deals with developing countries.

Amnesty - Campaign on issues such as arms control, use of torture, violence against women, refugee rights and international justice. Amongst other actions, e-mail the Portuguese Prime Minister José Socrates (current EU President) to ensure that all EU governments co-operate to end rendition and secret detentions.

RSPB - Join with the RSPB in letter writing campaigns. Current campaigns include writing to your MP for a strong Climate Change Bill. Take action with regard protecting rare habitats and wildlife sites.

Our World Our Say - E-mail Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, to oppose ID cards, e-mail your MP to oppose Trident.

CAMPAIGNING GROUPS:

Although writing letters and signing petitions pushes issues up the 'agenda' and does have an impact, it can only achieve so much on it's own. Get active and keep the pressure on.

URGENT ACTION:

With the national ID database on the horizon, the following campaign groups need your support now:

No2ID - No2ID is a campaigning organisation opposed to the government's planned ID card and the National Identity Register. Amongst other actions, lobby your Council, dozens of public bodies have already passed motions against ID cards, making it harder for the government to introduce the scheme.

Defy-id - Defy-ID is an adhoc network of groups and individuals prepared for active resistance to increasing state surveillance and the introduction of ID cards. There are local groups with which to get involved.
