Politicians defend the present system by saying that wealth will ultimately 'trickle down' to all. That by providing incentives to the rich, for example, through lower taxation, they will be spurred into entrepreneurial activity, which in turn will create jobs and boost growth. However, they have been saying this for a long time and it is evidently clear that wealth is not 'trickling down'. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. That's a fact. Even James Wolfensohn, head of the World Bank, now concedes that 'Globalisation is not working at the level of the people'.

Our politicians are central to the growth of globalisation and corporate power. Even though it is hurting their own electorate and rolling back the social progress that has been achieved over the past 100 years. It's seems to be all they do, they pander to corporate power and actively participate in the 'Global Race to the Bottom'. Our own democratically elected representatives even agree to invade defenseless third world countries despite international law, their own electorate's concerns and massive worldwide protest, and at massive expense. Both financial expense, (not so forthcoming for public services) and in terms of the damage to our democracy, our faith in politicians, government and the labour party, damage to ideals such as human rights, the rule of law, justice, equality and world peace via the UN, and damage to the UK's standing and influence in the world. Why did they do this? Oil!!! Corporate control of national natural resources, juicy reconstruction contracts and the privatisation of everything are the captors prize. Just who do our politicians work for?
